The Malta Medical Students' Association (MMSA)

The Malta Medical Students' Association (MMSA) is one of the oldest student associations found at the University of Malta. All students in the faculty of Medicine and Surgery, including post-graduate students but excluding Pharmacy students, are automatic members of this association.
 
MMSA is a non-governmental, non-political student organization that has been established 57 years ago. MMSA has its foundation at the University of Malta where it has been the most active student organization for the past 10 years. It is a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) and European Medical Students' Associations (EMSA). As part of IFMSA, it enjoys international status amongst 97 National Member Organizations encompassing over one million medical students globally. MMSA is also affiliated locally with the National Council of Women and supported actively by the Health Promotion Department.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to enhance the education of future healthcare professionals through enforcing active participation in their teaching system, organizing international exchanges and implementing training in the various fields of the public 
health sector.  
 
We also aim at empowering the Maltese society, including its marginalized communities, to become functionally involved in decision taking within the National Healthcare System and to reduce health-related social problems through culture and gender sensitive health advocacy 

Aims and objectives
1. Empowering medical students in applying their knowledge and capacities to be actively involved in decision-making with regards to the teaching system and to the enhancement of society. 
 
2. Promote and facilitate professional and scientific exchanges as well as projects and extracurricular training for medical students, 
thereby sensitizing them to other cultures and societies and their health problems.  
Representing Maltese medical students at an international level through the International Federation of Medical Students' Association. 
 
3. Advocate public health awareness through conferences, press releases, publications, campaigns and peer education sessions. 
 
Tackle public health issues in a prioritized fashion and measurable changes are recorded to determine the cost-benefit of the methods applied.  
 
4. Teach youth theoretical background on behavior change peer education, group dynamics and co facilitation.  Provide youth with the basic life skills to take informed decisions with respect to their health, ensure knowledge of their existing health rights and encourage involvement in policy changing. 
 
5. Ensure continuity in the programs developed and improvement through monitoring & evaluation as per the statute guidelines 
Play an active role in formulating youth charters with respect to the various aspects of public health. Endorsing relevant publications.

MISSION STATEMENT:  Women committed to the service of Humanity

  • YWCA (Malta) promote women's full participation at all levels of society through leadership opportunities and training.
  • YWCA works for social and economic justice through development and advocacy programmes, to mobilize women's collective power for action on issues of vital concern.
  • YWCA Self Development Programme focuses on forming an essential foundation for educational and vocational life training skills. Assist women in learning basic skills which relate to their talents. Courses organized are given by professional YWCA members and volunteer supporters. All courses offered are free of charge.
  • YWCA aim is to build strong communities by offering educational courses and other social services for all women and families going through difficult times.
  • YWCA (Malta) is a care-giving movement driven by Christian Faith whose members are committed to empower women through education and training

 

 

MCWO The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations

The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO) represents the concerns, needs and interests of women from all walks of life through dialogue and networking at a national, European and international level. The purpose of the Confederation is to integrate and unify all national women’s NGO’s and individual members in order to represent Malta at the European Women’s Lobby group in Brussels as a full member.  The MCWO through its member organisations represents over 24,000 Maltese women and is a full member of the European Women’s Lobby.

The objectives of the Confederation are to:
•    Act as a national forum where informed reflection and debate on women’s rights lead to concrete recommendations, conclusions and actions;
•    Disseminate best practices in the field of women’s rights in order to guarantee equal opportunities;
•    Contribute towards an improvement of the national policy and strategy vis-à-vis women’s issues;
•    Improve the co-operation between policy makers, NGO’s and individual members working in the field of women’s issues
•    Inform link and raise awareness of women’s organisations on European issues;
•    Work directly with European institutions to ensure that women’s needs and perspective become an equal and integral part of European policies;
•    Keep MCWO members updated on all national and EU directives, regulations and legislation regarding women’s issues and gender mainstreaming. 


The Malta Union of Midwives & Nurses ( MUMN )

The Malta Union of Midwives & Nurses ( MUMN ) is a professional union for nurses and midwives registered by the Nursing & Midwifery Council in Malta. MUMN is responsible to organise these two professions in three sectors – trade union issues, continuing education and social welfare. In fact it is the only union in the health sector that organise a Benevolent Fund for its members. MUMN enjoys 96% membership from all the nurses and midwives in our country.
